Harry Potter: Five ways Remus and Sirius could have become friends.

1) It was a rescue. Remus's trunk strap broke on the Hogwart's Express platform when he was a First Year. His parents had just kissed him goodbye and left -- because he was determined not to be one of those children whose Mum and Dad stood there waving foolishly long after the train had pulled out of the station. Sirius saw a skinny boy with mousy brown hair struggling to pull a battered trunk and decided that he would be a HERO and GO AID his fallen comrade. (He was also looking for an excuse to escape Bella's clutches.)

2) It was a rescue. Remus saw a boy with wild dark hair and even wilder eyes loping along the platform toward him at an alarming pace. "I'm Sirius, that trunk's broken, let me help you," the boy said in one breath, before seizing the trunk's other handle and half-dragging Remus along with it. That was the first moment that Remus caught an inkling of what life with Sirius would always be like -- fastpaced and nonstop, riding the whirlwind. But he allowed himself to be pulled along and didn't beg off politely, because he thought he saw something sad in Sirius's eyes.

3) It was a rescue. One last bag of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans was sitting forlornly on the snack trolley. That wouldn't do, Sirius thought, reaching out for it--

And bumping hands with fingers attached to a bony arm, protruding out of a rather tattered sleeve.

"I'm sorry--"

"Beg your pardon--"

They stopped and looked at each other.

"Split it?" Remus offered.

4) It was chance. Sirius was damned if he was going to let Bella bully him into sitting with Snivellus Snape, just because they were both First Years, so he wiggled out of her grasp and darted out of the Slytherin compartment. He ran down a corridor, heard Bella shriek and decided that he shouldn't stay out in the open, vulnerable as he was. He slammed open the door of the first compartment he came to, and tumbled inside. Three pairs of eyes met him -- one shining with merriment behind large glasses, one curious and half afraid, and the last, brown eyes the color of melted chocolate, with surprise and faint sympathy. And that was that.

5) It was fate. "Gryffindor? GRYFFINDOR?!" Sirius moaned. "Unbelievable. There's not been a Black in Gryffindor in... in..."

"Ever," Bella finished for him. "I hope you're proud of yourself, cousin," she snarled, before flouncing off in a whirl of dark robes.

Sirius numbly followed the others -- his House, he reminded himself -- to Gryffindor tower. He was consigned to a room with three other First Years. James Scrofulous Potter, Peter Prat-like Pettigrew, and Remus Bloody Bollocks Lupin.

I'm doomed, Sirius thought to himself.

But three hours later, sated with Remus's chocolate (which his father had given him to share so that he would make new friends, not that Remus would ever admit to this) and Peter's Pumpkin Pasties, with the rubble of a Wizard's Chess game surrounding him, Sirius realized that he had laughed more in the last half hour than at any other point in his life (including the time he and Reg had put the worm in Aunt Lucretia's soup).

X-Men (movieverse): Five things Scott would never tell Charles.

1) That sometimes he wonders if Charles is wrong. That he has, a couple of times, allowed himself to wonder how his life would be different if he'd gone with Erik when the other man had left the mansion. Usually, Scott then thinks about his life here, with his students, with Jean, and decides he wouldn't want it any other way.

2) That he and Jean have had sex in the pilot's seat of the Blackbird.

3) That he'd like to have a shot at teaching the ethics class at some point. Sure, Scott likes math, and he's good at it, but Philosophy won his heart in undergrad, and just once, he'd like to be able to discuss Plato outside of assigning Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance to his shop class.

4) That he really, really doesn't like the Victorian authors that Charles made them read. Hank and Jean both know that the very mention of "Dickens" is enough to make Scott turn pale. so

5) That sometimes he wishes he wasn't a mutant.

Five objects that remind Jean of Scott.

1) Her jewelry box. He'd carved it with his beams as a Christmas present for her, his first year here. It's not as nice as some of the things he's made since -- the edges aren't all squared off, and her initial on the top is slightly lopsided -- but it was the first thing he ever gave her, the first time he'd understood that he could be more than a living weapon.

2) Pancakes. He'd tried to make her breakfast in bed once, in the early days of their relationship. He'd had to sneak down to the kitchen at four AM, since the school's cook arrived at five and he hadn't wanted anyone to know. He'd ended up burning the pancakes and setting off the school's fire alarm, and no one had been very happy with him.

3) Red. Red anything. Scott's thoughts are red in her mind, and he writes her love letters in red ink, and she's filled her closet with red clothing for him. The color is Scott's, and Scott's alone.

4) Her Magic 8 Ball. Scott bought it for her once as a gag gift after she'd picked one up at a mall kiosk and asked playfully, "Oh, Magic 8 Ball, does Scott love me?" and it had answered, "Without a doubt." That's what he thinks of when he looks at it sitting on her office desk. Jean thinks of all the times they'd played pool and he'd let her win, until the day he'd gotten a bit too drunk and tipped his mutant hand, sinking all his balls (and some of hers) in two turns.

5) Children with bright blue eyes. He told her once that his eyes were blue before his mutation manifested. Every time she sees a baby with blue eyes, she wonders if their children will take after Scott in this way.
